Photos June 2012

June 23rd was the Dzhulyunitsa Fishing  Festival.  For three hours on a hot summer morning the Dzhulyunitsa River was visited by fishing hopefuls.  Everyone in the three categories (girls, boys or adults) wanted to be a winner for – the smallest fish, the biggest fish and the most fish (by weight). For everyone else it was a pleasant morning visiting with friends along the banks of the river in the shade of the huge trees.

Late blooming lilacs at the top of Shipka Pass. Mmmmm.

What a beautiful view of the Balkans.
Monument at the top of Shipka Pass commemoration the soldiers who fought of Bulgaria's freedom from Turkish rule.

Love this tree!

We visited a replica of the tomb.

There were lots of visitors in Kazanluk - enjoying the festivities and the street artisans.

A parade filled with dancers, majorettes, singing baba's, and much, much more.

A little bit of the American southwest???

We visited a museum which showed us how they distill roses into oil and rosewater.
The golden church of Shipka.  The golden rotundas shimmered in the sunlight!
